More details, less sensation
The Sun reports today that star Gordon Ramsay was chased by a knife-wielding chef during production of the U.S. version of his series Kitchen Nightmares, on which he attempts to make over troubled restaurants.
It’s a fascinating story, and although the writer, Sara Nathan, quotes Ramsay directly, the story is frustratingly devoid of information. We know that he was chased by a chef with a knife after getting into a disagreement about frozen food, and that security intervened, but that’s it. Who was the chef, and at which restaurant did he work? Where did this occur (besides the U.S., which is all the story offers)? Did they continue filming? Will we see that episode on television? What does Ramsay think about this? Was he frightened or is he used to that sort of reaction by now?
I hate reading stories and being left with basic questions. Even if the reporter doesn’t have all the answers, shouldn’t she have answered the 5Ws at the very least? The Sun may be a tabloid that revels in sensationalism–the headline for this story is “Ramsay escapes filleting”–but even tabloids should give us the most basic information as they feed our need for gossip.
