Mother throws children and self off freeway

without comments

The article, “Cops: Mom throws sons, self off freeway; all live” on msnbc.com is completely crazy for two reasons, one, because a young mother threw her two children and herself off of an overpass for no apparent reason and, two, because they all lived after falling on the concrete highway below in the midst of fast-moving cars.

As engaging as this story was, however, I think that the “why” of the story was second in importance to the “what,” but the “why” wasn’t explained until the end of the article. I was frustrated and a little confused as I continued to read, trying to figure out why she had done this, and the answer finally comes in the third to last paragraph.

Another question I had throughout reading the article was, “What kind of person does that?” which added to my confusion, until I read the last line of the article that said Child Services had intervened with the woman before and she also has a criminal record. I would have liked those questions to be answered closer to the beginning of the article so I wouldn’t have had to wait until the end to figure out what I was reading, as we’ve learned most readers don’t do.
