Serb Protesters Attack U.S. Embassy

with one comment

This article on riots in Kosovo was very informative, but something gave me pause.  For one, CNN seems to be getting all their information second hand from the Associated Press.  And when I was reading the middle section I had a hard time concentrating on the story because nearly every paragraph ended with AP.  I mean it is a good thing that the AP is so well trusted, but CNN is big enough where I feel there should have been more from their own reporters and less from the AP.

Despite this, it would appear that they did a good job representing all sides of this inncident.  Which I can only imagine would be a hard one to report on, especially if you are from the country whose embassy was attacked.

One good thing about posting a story like this on the internet as opposed to having it in a printed paper is that this story contains links to other related stories that allow the reader to better understand this very complicated international issue.  The video and photos avaiable on a webpage also helps the reader understand the situation in which all of this took place.  In a printed paper, there is usually only room for one photo, maybe teo or three.

McCain’s Lobbyist

without comments

I’m sure everyone has seen or at least heard about this story in the New York Times today about John McCain’s relationship with a female lobbyist and his checkered history of ethics reform in the Senate.

The big news of this story, of course, are the specifics of McCain’s relationship with the lobbyist, which the story isn’t totally clear about. McCain and Vicki Iseman (the lobbyist) both deny having a romantic relationship, but the article mentions that McCain’s aides were afraid that they were.

The article’s lede mentions this (even though it’s not inverted pyramid because it’s a feature) but the article never really confirms it. I guess I would’ve like them to actually have confirmed what’s going on with this, but it’s still good that they mention it.
