Spielberg Has a Heart
He doesn’t however heart China. Today Steven Spielburg announced that he is withdrawing his participation from the 2008 Olympics that are to be held in Beijing. Apparently, he’s pissed off that China isn’t doing anything about the conflict in Darfur despite the country’s ties to Sudan. It should prove interesting to see if any of the other Olympic sponsors follow suit in fears of being associated with China’s lackadaisical attitude toward Darfur.
“At this point, my time and energy must be spent not on Olympic ceremonies, but on doing all I can to help bring an end to the unspeakable crimes against humanity that continue to be committed in Darfur,” said Spielburg in an article reported by Reuters. What exactly is it that Spielburg will be doing? It remains to be seen, but hopefully not making any more political “thrillers” like Munich.
